Michigan GOP lawmaker engages in frantic sprint from previous anti-choice positions, land speed record for back peddling insight

“Jumping” Jack O’Malley lost Right to Life endorsement in effort to bolt from radical anti-choice positions just before the November election

LANSING – Republican state Rep. Jack O’Malley is trying frantically to backtrack and run away from dangerous previously held anti-choice positions just seven weeks before an election. He clearly hopes no one will notice.

Members of the Grand Traverse Democratic Party are delivering a pair of running shoes to O’Malley’s office to help the Lake Ann Republican avoid injury in his frantic Wile E. Coyote style dash from his own clear record of restricting women’s reproductive rights.

O’Malley recently gave up his longstanding endorsement of the radical anti-choice group Right to Life of Michigan, which requires its endorsed candidates to support a ban on all abortions without exception other than the life of the mother.

Jack O’Malley is running away from his record and his extreme views on abortion, but reality and the facts are bound to catch up with him,” said Chris Cracchiolo, chair of the Grand Traverse Democratic Party. “Northern Michigan voters know the real Jack O’Malley and they won’t be fooled by this clumsy effort to backtrack from his anti-choice record seven weeks before the election.

O’Malley is facing Traverse City Democrat Betsy Coffia for the newly configured 103rd House District, which covers Leelanau County as well as parts of Benzie and Grand Traverse counties.

As reported by Gongwer this week, a health care advocacy group called the Committee to Protect Health Care held a press conference with Dr. Charles Williams, a retired radiologist in the 103rd House District. The group questioned O’Malley’s new position on abortion and noted that his established voting record shows he is an “anti-abortion extremist.”
