LANSING — The Michigan Democratic Party issued the following statement today on behalf of MDP Chair Lavora Barnes regarding the overtime rule change put forward by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer today to help Michigan workers and families make ends meet after the Trump Administration drastically weakened the rule change proposed by former President Barack Obama:
“We applaud Gov. Gretchen Whitmer for taking the lead on the critical pocketbook issue of overtime pay after Donald Trump broke another promise by again hurting Michigan workers instead of helping them,” said Lavora Barnes, Michigan Democratic Party Chair. “The Trump Administration’s new overtime rule is a slap in the face to salaried workers across the country. The rule leaves behind more than 192,000 Michiganders who would have otherwise received overtime pay when they work more than 40 hours per week under the previous rule change proposed by the Obama Administration.”
