Michigan Dems Note Strong Contrast as Governor Whitmer Signs Bills to Protect Elections

With new laws, Michigan Democrats enhance democracy and ensure Michiganders’ voices are heard in the face of an increasingly dangerous MAGA MIGOP

LANSING — Today, Governor Whitmer signed voting rights bills into law to further protect Michigan’s democracy, expanding on legislation already championed by Democrats this year to improve access to ballot boxes, early voting, and absentee ballots. Michigan Democrats have spent this legislative session fighting for election security, reliability, and accessibility, even in the face of increased attacks from an extreme GOP hell-bent on subverting democracy.

“Our democracy has been under constant attack from a MAGA Michigan Republican Party dead set on undermining our institutions, but Michigan Democrats are proud to stand up and protect the right to vote,” said Chair of the Michigan Democratic Party Lavora Barnes. “Michigan Republicans, led by election denier Kristina Karamo, have tried – and failed – to chip away at our election integrity and overturn the will of the voters time and time again, but thanks to our Democratic leaders, we are continuing to institute safeguards to defend our democratic process. These laws will help inform voters, secure elections, and increase accessibility to the ballot box so all voices are heard.”

While extremist Michigan Republicans like Kristina Karamo and MAGA Matt Hall ( the guy who brought Rudy Giuliani to our state house) want to override the will of the people to push their radical politics, Michigan Dems will ensure that elections are decided by Michiganders’ votes, not someone else’s agenda.
