Michigan Dems Celebrate Gov Whitmer Signing Clean Energy Future Package, Slam MIGOP Opposition

With the Governor’s signature, Michigan will upgrade its clean energy standards to protect the state’s treasured natural resources while creating good-paying jobs

LANSING — Today, Governor Whitmer signed the landmark Clean Energy Future legislative package codifying Michigan Democrats’ powerful step toward ensuring a clean future for all Michiganders, now and for generations to come. This legislation will help reduce costs and create more high-quality, green jobs – all while protecting Michigan’s beautiful lakes, rivers, and landscapes.

“Michigan Democrats are proving that the environment and the economy aren’t an either-or – we can deliver for all Michiganders by prioritizing and protecting both,” said Chair of the Michigan Democratic Party Lavora Barnes. “So-called Republican ‘leaders’ like MAGA Matt Hall led his caucus to vote against this popular legislation, encouraging them to turn their backs on the best interests of their communities and the entire state of Michigan. Democrats, on the other hand, are leading by example, ensuring Michigan is at the forefront of the clean energy future while growing our middle class at the same time.”

Almost every Republican in the House voted against the Clean Energy Future Package – making it clear where they stand on clean water, clean air, and healthy Michigan children. Here is just a small list of some key House Republicans who – with the extreme, far-right Freedom Caucus – voted against this crucial legislation:

  • MAGA Matt Hall
  • Rep. Jamie Thompson
  • Rep. Jim DeSana
  • Rep. Kathy Schmaltz
  • Rep. Ann Bollin
  • Rep. Donni Steele
  • Rep. Mark Tisdel
  • Rep. Alicia St. Germaine
  • Rep. David Martin
  • Rep. Jerry Neyer
  • Rep. Timothy Beson
