The Michigan Democratic Party released the following statement on behalf of Chair Lavora Barnes on the Michigan U.S. Senate race.
“Yesterday Michigan held an election with record turnout levels. It takes a considerable amount of time and volunteer hours to count every single vote. We knew that the U.S. Senate race in Michigan would be competitive and there are still a number of votes left to be counted in Detroit, Grand Rapids, and Flint. The outstanding votes in these areas favor Gary Peters and we are confident they will decide this race. John James has shared on social media, through his campaign manager, that he believes he has won this race. That isn’t how elections work. The voters have cast their ballots and they are being meticulously counted and when that process is over, all Michiganders together will find out the results.
The Michigan Democratic Party is committed to seeing every single vote counted. We stand with the election workers, the poll watchers, the local clerks, and with the Secretary of State in ensuring that the process of counting votes remains transparent and complete.”
