The Michigan Democratic Party released the following statement on behalf of Chair Lavora Barnes on Sens. Stabenow and Peters’ “No” votes on Amy Coney Barrett’s confirmation to the Supreme Court:
“Today, Senators Stabenow and Peters stood with Michigan families and the more than 4 million Michiganders with pre-existing health conditions as Donald Trump and Republicans rammed through a nominee in their cynical effort to use the Supreme Court to advance a dangerous agenda that was rejected by Congress and the American people.
As I said when Amy Coney Barrett was nominated, this is an outrageous attack by Trump on the Affordable Care Act — which protects people with pre-existing conditions and has expanded access to Medicaid to hundreds of thousands of families in our state. We cannot allow this harmful agenda supported ‘2000%’ by John James to win the day — especially as millions of Michiganders across the state have already voted.
With so much at stake in this election, it’s clear we must do everything in our power to send Joe Biden to the White House and re-elect Gary Peters to the Senate on November 3 to fight for our working families.”
