Michigan Democratic Party Statement on Robocalls Targeting Black Voters in Detroit

The Michigan Democratic Party released the following statement on behalf of Lavora Barnes, chair of the Michigan Democratic Party, on the recent robocalls targeting Black voters in the city of Detroit.

“It is clear we have entered voter suppression season.  These unscrupulous antics by Republican operatives are shameful.  We have fought for the right to vote in this country and we will not tolerate attempts to suppress the vote.

Voting by mail has always been, and will continue to be, a safe and secure way to let your voice be heard.  We echo the words of Secretary Benson – voting by mail does not expose personal information.  We continue to encourage all Michiganders to take advantage of Michigan’s election laws and cast their vote from home this year.

We are thankful for the swift actions of Secretary Benson and Attorney General Nessel in responding to this threat and committing to find the responsible parties as quickly as possible.”
