LANSING — The Michigan Democratic Party released the following statement on behalf of spokesman Christian Slater on the latest Woodward revelations that on April 13 Donald Trump called COVID-19 a “killer” and that “if you’re the wrong person, you don’t have a chance.”
Just three days later, Trump attacked social distancing measures in Michigan and tweeted in support of anti-semitic and sexist protests that launched in opposition to Governor Whitmer’s stay-at-home orders.
“It didn’t need to be this bad, but Donald Trump lied, downplayed the pandemic, and now 6,921 in Michigan are dead. After months of Donald Trump’s failed COVID-19 response, we know he was lying to us too. As he publicly attacked life-saving social distancing measures in Michigan, he was calling COVID-19 a ‘killer’ behind the scenes. This is disgusting and reprehensible and shows Trump’s callous disregard for the thousands of Michiganders who have died from the pandemic he has refused to take seriously from day one.”
