Michigan Democratic Party on Gov. Whitmer’s Demand for Answers in Civil Rights Department Harassment Case

LANSING — The Michigan Democratic Party issued the following statement today on behalf of MDP Chair Lavora Barnes regarding Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s demand for an explanation from the Civil Rights Commission as to its handling of a department report that concluded the director made “inappropriate, offensive” comments to a colleague about women:

“Gov. Whitmer’s demand for answers makes it clear that sexual harassment will not be tolerated in our state government nor swept under the rug of bureaucracy while she is in charge. The only way to end harassment in the workplace for good is to meet every case head-on with swift action before it can go further or fester and become part of a culture. Gov. Whitmer’s quick, decisive leadership on this matter is yet another example of her determined effort to get the priorities of our government back in line and Michigan back on track to being a state that works for all its citizens, including the dedicated civil servants who go to work for us every day.”
