Michigan Democratic Party Announces New Senior Communications Advisor

LANSING — Today, Chair Lavora Barnes announced the newest addition to the Michigan Democratic Party. Rodericka Applewhaite has been named Senior Communications Advisor for the 2022 cycle, with a focus on the race for governor and holding Michigan Republicans accountable.

“We’re thrilled to have Rodericka on board,” said MDP Chair Lavora Barnes. “She brings to the Michigan Democratic Party years of experience cultivated over several campaigns and at premier organizations. With her hire, we are putting our best foot forward as we work to promote Governor Whitmer’s leadership and hold Republicans accountable for blocking popular and necessary legislation to speed economic recovery, protect the safety of Michigan’s working families, improve our schools, and fix our roads and bridges.”

Rodericka Applewhaite previously served on the rapid response team for then-Mayor Pete Buttigieg’s presidential campaign. Prior to that, she was a key member of the research team at EMILY’s List, managing state and local vetting for the pro-choice Democratic women’s organization leading up to the successful 2018 midterms. She also worked on statewide campaigns in Georgia and New Jersey.
