Tonight, President Biden delivered his first State of the Union address. Michigan Democratic Party Chair Lavora Barnes released the following statement:
“Just over a year ago, President Biden inherited an economic crisis that has impacted folks in every corner of our state. His remarks tonight are a reminder that his vision for growing the economy from the bottom up and middle out is working — with six million jobs created since he took office, a historically low unemployment rate, and America making a comeback after years of Republican mismanagement.
“Thanks to once-in-a-generation legislation like the American Rescue Plan, Michigan cities are recovering from the impact of the pandemic with unprecedented investments in schools, greater access to high-speed internet, and programs that support working families. On top of that, the President’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law has not only delivered us an infrastructure week, but it’s also delivered investments in our roads, bridges, waterways, and airports that will benefit the Great Lakes State for generations.
“Make no mistake, we can only continue that progress with President Biden in the Oval Office and Michigan Democrats in Congress. I look forward to working with him and Michigan Democrats as we continue to lower costs for workers and families, improve mental health resources for our students, support our veterans, and make health care affordable for everyone.
“Tonight, Michiganders heard that the state of our union is strong, and that’s thanks to Democrats who have a plan, not Republicans who don’t even have a draft.”
