LANSING — The Michigan Democratic Party issued the following statement on behalf of MDP Chair Lavora Barnes regarding the passing of civil rights icon Judge Damon Keith:
“Judge Damon Keith was more than a difference-maker — he was a force multiplier,” said Lavora Barnes, Chair of the Michigan Democratic Party. “His work as a legal scholar and civil rights leader improved the lives of Black Americans and the world around him. His decisions corrected injustice and changed the course of our nation’s history, while the diverse set of individuals he influenced carry forth his ideas and values all around us. From the rights we hold dear to the progressive leaders he mentored making change at every level, Judge Keith’s legacy lives on as we continue the fight for justice and equality for all of our fellow citizens.”
