MDP series to feature dozens of GOP candidates and officials who lie, break the law, and hold extreme views

New series “Big Lies, Bad Crimes and Extreme Views” will highlight dozens of Republican candidates and elected officials unfit to serve

LANSING — It’s been a banner crop of unhinged Republican candidates in 2020 with several engaged in spewing outright lies or espousing bogus conspiracy theories. Some have been arrested or accused of crimes and several investigations targeting Republicans are underway. And it’s a mad rush to see which candidate can embrace the most extreme positions possible on issues like a woman’s right to choose.

In the weeks leading up to the August 2 primary, the Michigan Democratic Party will regularly highlight individual GOP candidates who cannot be trusted to serve the public. This series is called “Big Lies, Bad Crimes and Extreme Views of the GOP.”

“It seems like each day we hear about another Republican facing criminal charges and investigations,” said Lavora Barnes, chair of the Michigan Democratic Party. “It can be easy to be overwhelmed by the constantly changing news cycle and we want to make sure Michigan voters have all the background they need to make informed decisions at the ballot box this summer. That’s why this series, which highlights the big lies, bad crimes and extreme views of many Republican candidates, is so important to the future of our democracy.”

The series kicks off today with a look at GOP candidate for governor, Ryan Kelley, who is being arraigned today on multiple criminal charges stemming from his participation in the violent insurrection on January 6th that resulted in five deaths and injuries to 140 law enforcement officers.
