Michigan Democratic Party supports efforts of Legislative Democrats to move bills aimed at improving gun safety
LANSING – The following statement can be attributed to Lavora Barnes, chair of the Michigan Democratic Party:
“We are devastated by the horrific shooting at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas. The catastrophic tally of gun violence in schools and across America continues to rise and we call upon Republicans to stop pandering to the NRA, the gun lobby and gun manufacturers and start taking some common-sense steps to keep guns away from dangerous individuals.
“We want to know why, even after another school massacre, Republican lawmakers are refusing to do anything to stop the killing. It’s unconscionable that the GOP continues to protect the gun lobby and gun makers instead of Michiganders who just want their schools and communities to be safe.
“We need action now which is why we support today’s efforts by Democrats in the Michigan Legislature to try to force action on common-sense reforms.”
