MDP Friday Round-Up: Gary Peters Is Getting Things Done For Michiganders

U.S. Senator Gary Peters is fighting to ensure that Michiganders have the resources they need as we recover from historic flooding in Midland County and continue to face the Coronavirus crisis. From touring flood damaged areas with FEMA with a bipartisan group of elected officials, to introducing legislation to help nursing homes contain the spread of Coronavirus — Gary is getting things done.

GARY INTRODUCES BILL TO ASSIST NURSING HOMES 

As nursing homes are severely affected by this crisis, Gary introduced a bill to provide $20 billion to help states, nursing homes and intermediate care facilities contain the spread of the Coronavirus.

  • U.S. Senator Gary Peters has introduced a bill to provide $20 billion to help states, nursing homes and intermediate care facilities contain the spread of the Coronavirus.
  • Peters says, the Nursing Home COVID-19 Protection and Prevention Act would help states implement strategies to reduce the spread of COVID-19, purchase desperately needed personal protective equipment (PPE) and testing kits, and support nursing home workers with premium pay, overtime and other essential benefits.

GARY SECURED NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERS THE BENEFITS THEY DESERVE

Gary successfully pushed the Trump administration to extend mobilizations for National Guard members who have served on the frontlines of the Coronavirus pandemic through mid-August.

I am relieved the Administration will not prematurely end active duty status for these soldiers, and I will continue working in a bipartisan manner to ensure they are provided the benefits they have earned and that we give states the much-need certainty they need during this crisis.”

GARY INTRODUCES BILL TO PROVIDE INCREASED ACCESS TO CAPITAL IN UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES 

Gary introduced a new bill to establish a program to provide community investment institutions, such as CDFIs, MDIs, community banks and credit unions, in historically underserved communities with critical direct capital investments and loans.

  • Senator Gary Peters has introduced a bill that would increase access to capital for community investment institutions working to support small business owners and consumers through the Coronavirus pandemic in minority communities.
  • The Community Capital Investment Act would establish a Treasury Department program to provide community investment institutions, such as Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs), Minority Depository Institutions (MDIs), community banks and credit unions, in historically underserved communities with critical direct capital investments and loans.

OAKLAND COUNTY VETERAN PRAISES GARY PETERS FOR BIPARTISAN WORK

Oakland County veteran Rick Donovan penned an op-ed praising U.S. Senator Gary Peters’ bipartisanship that has delivered results for Michigan’s veterans – in particular he highlights Gary’s bill that was recently signed into law that will expand apprenticeship opportunities for veterans.

As Ranking Member of HSGAC overseeing FEMA, Gary joined FEMA Regional Administrator James Joseph and other elected officials to tour and assess the damage from historic flooding in Midland County and meet with local first responders and volunteers.
