MDP Chair Lavora Barnes Calls on Donald Trump to Reopen ACA Exchanges After Millions Left Unemployed

LANSING- The Michigan Democratic Party released the following statement on behalf of Chair Lavora Barnes calling on Donald Trump to reopen the ACA marketplace after over 400,000 Michiganders and almost 10 million Americans lost their jobs in the last two weeks alone:

“At every turn, Donald Trump has fought to strip health care from 720,000 Michiganders in his relentless war on the Affordable Care Act. First, fighting to repeal it in Congress and then, asking the Supreme Court to strike it down. Now, as hundreds of thousands in Michigan lose their jobs and the critical health insurance that comes with it, Trump is preventing Michigan families from accessing the coverage they need in the middle of a pandemic – a pandemic made worse by his erratic, incomplete response.

“I’m calling on Donald Trump to immediately stop his sabotage of the Affordable Care Act, end his fight in court to repeal it, and open the ACA marketplace for a special enrollment period. It is unacceptable that the over 400,000 Michiganders who have lost jobs in the past two weeks would have any barriers to getting the health care they need because of Donald Trump’s relentless war on health care for hard working Michigan families.”
