LANSING — In response to Donald Trump still spreading conspiracy theories about his 2020 election loss and now brazenly threatening to have the federal government get involved in Detroit’s elections, Michigan Democratic Party Chair Curtis Hertel released the following statement in response:
“Donald Trump is once again spewing dangerous conspiracy theories about his 2020 election loss, and now, even blatantly threatening an egregious abuse of power by trying to take over Detroit’s elections. The U.S. Constitution is clear that states are in charge of elections, not the federal government, and no amount of lies from Donald Trump will change that.
“Every single Michigan Republican should be calling out this disgusting behavior and demanding that Trump stay out of our elections—but they would rather let Trump walk all over them before bothering to stand up for Michiganders.
“Let’s be honest about what this is: Trump is lashing out to try and distract from the fact that his disastrous policies are causing real pain, with people across the state feeling the effects every day of skyrocketing prices and Republicans’ harmful agenda to rip away health care. The conspiracy theories must come to an end, and Trump and the federal government must stay the hell out of Michigan’s elections.”
