LANSING–– The Michigan Democratic Party released the following statement on behalf of Macomb County Commissioner candidate and Sterling Heights resident Carole Chi in response to Lara Trump’s Sterling Heights rally:
“As Lara Trump parachutes into Sterling Heights in a desperate attempt to spin for her father-in-law, Macomb County is suffering from Donald Trump’s broken promises. Pit stops by Trump’s in-laws can’t hide the fact that Macomb County has faced plant closures and job losses and relentless sabotaging of our health care from Donald Trump while this failed president hands out tax cuts to his rich friends and politically connected cronies. Macomb County is ready to stand up and reject Donald Trump in 2020.”
Donald Trump’s Broken Promises to Macomb County Working Families:
PROMISE: Donald Trump In Warren: “if I’m elected, you won’t lose one plant, you’ll have plants coming into this country, you’re going to have jobs again, you won’t lose one plant, I promise you that.” [Trump Campaign Rally, Warren MI, 10/31/16]
REALITY: General Motors announced layoffs at its plant In Warren: “General Motors is cutting factory jobs again. The automaker will eliminate one of two shifts at its Warren, Michigan plant, which makes transmissions. The company won’t say how many jobs will be affected, but the cuts could eliminate about half of the nearly 600 jobs at the plant.” [CNNMoney, 5/31/17]

REALITY: Ford is cutting 2,300 jobs, mostly from Dearborn: “In the U.S. about 2,300 jobs will be cut through buyouts and layoffs. About 1,500 already have happened. About 500 workers will be let go this week… Most of Ford’s white-collar workers are in and around the company’s Dearborn, Michigan, headquarters.” [Associated Press, 5/20/19]
