WASHINGTON, D.C. – On Thursday, June 23, 2022, a delegation from the Michigan Democratic Party, including MDP Chair Lavora Barnes, Senator Debbie Stabenow, Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (MI-12), and MI Lt. Governor Garlin Gilchrist II, will present to the Democratic National Committee’s Rules and Bylaws Committee (RBC), which is currently deciding the primary calendar for the 2024 election.
During Thursday’s presentation, RBC members will hear from leading Democrats in the state on why Michigan is the best place to pick a president and should be an early primary state in the 2024 nominating process. As the most diverse battleground state in America, the Michigan electorate represents the broad identities and experiences of all Americans, making it an ideal litmus test for the general election.
Michigan’s bid to become an early primary state has ramped up over the last two weeks with the launch of MoveUpMichigan.com and the release of a new video narrated by Piston’s legend Isiah Thomas. Additional supporters have submitted letters to the DNC, including the Michigan Congressional Delegation, the MI AFL-CIO, the MEA and AFT, and two former MI GOP Chairs.
