LANSING–The Chair of the Michigan Democratic Party, Lavora Barnes, made the following statement on behalf of Michigan Democrats on Republicans broken promises on education:
“Time and again Donald Trump has broken his promises to Michigan students and families, working with his crony Betsy Devos to strip money from public schools, gut critical student protections, and to make it harder for survivors to seek justice on college campuses. Instead of standing for public education for all, Donald Trump and Betsy DeVos have led an all-out assault on the public schools Michigan students rely on. Donald Trump should be ashamed of his broken promises on education.”
Donald Trump’s Broken Promises on Education:
- Trump fought to slash the Education Department’s budget by $8.5 billion.
- Trump’s 2020 budget would have eliminated a critical student loan forgiveness program.
- Donald Trump and Betsy DeVos have made it harder for sexual assault survivors on campus to seek justice.
- Trump’s budgets have proposed eliminating billions from teacher training programs.
