James faces bipartisan criticism after potentially breaking federal law and congressional ethics rules
LANSING — John James’ latest ethics scandal is only getting worse as he continues to face bipartisan criticism – and emails from James’ spokesperson only make more clear that he used taxpayer money to help his campaign.
Last week, a constituent of the 10th Congressional District filed an ethics complaint with the U.S. House of Representatives’ Ethics Committee over James blatantly using taxpayer-funded federal government resources to promote his campaign for governor.
MIRS reported that James’ spokesperson, Hannah Osantowske, sternly told reporters ahead of the event in Utica, MI that it was an official event and James would not be able to answer political questions. But at the event, John James for Governor posters were plastered throughout and staff wore campaign shirts — clearly showing that James was misusing taxpayer-funded resources to boost his campaign for governor.
John Truscott, a prominent Michigan Republican, said that James’ campaign has “basically taken a gun and pointed at their own head with this kind of thing. This is just beyond stupidity.”
