Genevieve Peters Scott nearly defeated Mike Rogers in a straw poll of the Republican base at a GOP event in Michigan – before she even declared her candidacy
LANSING — Genevieve Peters Scott, a “Jan. 6 political agitator,” announced she will pose a primary challenge to failed GOP Senate candidate Mike Rogers as he continually fails to earn support from his own party.
Last month, Peters Scott nearly beat Rogers in a straw poll conducted at a GOP event weeks before she formally entered the race. Following Rogers’ embarrassing near-loss to Peters Scott, the U.S. Senate race was excluded from the Michigan GOP’s Mackinac Republican Leadership Conference straw poll, despite including every other major statewide race.
Peters Scott is a prominent “Stop the Steal” ringleader who encouraged protesters to “move forward” during the January 6th Capitol attack, has documented ties to the white nationalist Proud Boys organization and describes herself as a “rabid” and “proud” Trump supporter.
“Mike Rogers nearly lost in his own party’s straw poll – before his primary opponent had even declared her candidacy,” said Michigan Democratic Party spokesperson Joey Hannum. “Rogers has proven time and again he’s a failed candidate who can’t win over Michigan voters, and his inability to consolidate his own party’s base shows Republicans know it too.”
