LANSING — Early voting for 2021 elections across Michigan starts today! Under the expanded voting rights that was passed by the people in 2018, there are several ways to ensure you are able to vote and that your ballot will be counted.
“In spite of the evidence that there was no fraud that could have changed the outcome of the 2020 election, Republicans constantly attack our right to vote and our right to democracy,” said Lavora Barnes, Chair of the Michigan Democratic Party. “Democracy is always on the ballot, and this year is no different. Local elections matter and this is an opportunity for you to have a voice in your own community,” said Barnes.
Under the expansion of the state’s voting rights, people do not need a reason to vote absentee and can send their ballot through the mail or bring it to their local clerk’s office. To ensure a ballot will arrive in time to be counted, voters can also use drop boxes that have been placed across the state or take their ballot directly to their local clerk’s office. You can also walk into your clerk’s office, register to vote and cast a ballot right there at the same time.
The Secretary of State’s office is responsible for making sure that every resident in Michigan has the opportunity to register to vote and has barrier free access to polling locations. Check to make sure your community has an election in November and don’t forget to make sure you are registered to vote at Michigan Voter Information Center.
