ICYMI: Tudor Dixon Won’t Lift a Finger to Keep Medical Professionals Providing Abortion Care Out of Jail

During the final debate of the cycle and with all of Michigan watching, DeVos sellout Tudor Dixon once again tried to paper over her support for a a “good” near-total abortion ban from 1931 that criminalizes abortion. But once the cameras stopped rolling, Dixon conceded that if proposal 3 fails and pending legal battles result in the 1931 ban going back into effect, she would not take action to stop it.

WATCH the clip from her post-debate huddle with reporters and read the full transcript below.

As a reminder, it is an extensively-documented fact that Dixon unequivocally supports a dangerous abortion ban from 1931 that criminalizes abortion, makes felons out of reproductive health care providers and provides no exceptions for rape or incest. She also said that child sexual assualt victims should not have access to abortion because there’s “healing through that baby” and was recently exposed for her belief that “rape is more serious only if it involves abduction.”

Dixon also argued just months ago that medical professionals are spreading “the devil’s lie” when they have determined a pregnancy is unsafe to continue. She “has made no secret of her fierce opposition to abortion,” and equally has no intention of standing by her supposed exceptions for the life of the mother

MDP spokesperson Rodericka Applewhaite issued the following statement:

“DeVos sellout and anti-abortion extremist Tudor Dixon can’t give a straight answer on what she would do about criminality if the 1931 ban went back into effect because she wants Michiganders to forget that she won’t rest until medical professionals are behind bars for doing their job and providing care to those that need it. The millions of women and families who call this state home deserve a leader who is clear on where they stand and is prepared to serve as the last line of defense to maintain reproductive access from day one.”

Video Transcript:

REPORTER: On the issue of criminality and abortion, can you just clarify or give your view of how you would handle that if the 1931 abortion ban does go back into effect? And if people are criminalized for this, what would you do? Because I know you’ve said before that you are not for criminalization.

DIXON: You know, this is something that the people will decide. And we’ll find out what the people choose and the law is on the books. If that’s the law, then we’ll see what happens in the November 9th or the November 8th election.
