LANSING — In case you missed it, in a new WDIV/Detroit News survey asking Michigan voters where they stand on the probable presidential race between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris, ZERO Black respondents said they support Donald Trump.
We broke down this hard-hitting data below:
This news didn’t fall out of a coconut tree: After Donald Trump ran a racist campaign, implemented a racist agenda, and hurt Black communities every chance he got as president, Black voters have no reason to get within 100 yards of his campaign. His supposed launch of Black Voters for Trump in Detroit gave us secondhand embarrassment – he failed to fill his venue, and the folks that did join were mostly white and potentially from outside of Detroit.
Remember: under Donald Trump, jobs disappeared and unemployment more than doubled for Black Americans during the pandemic. His tax scam worsened the racial wealth gap – and 300,000 Black Americans lost health insurance in his first two years as president.
In response to the poll, Chair of the Michigan Democratic Party Lavora Barnes released the following statement:
“Donald Trump went out of his way to denigrate and disparage Black Americans every chance he got as president, so it’s no surprise that a whopping zero Black respondents in this poll support him for president. On the other hand, the Biden-Harris administration has invested millions in Black families, businesses, and communities. I am confident that this November, Michiganders will show up for Kamala Harris and keep Donald Trump, his racist agenda, and his white supremacist friends out of the White House.”
