ICYMI: Michigan Republicans Mired in Hypocrisy as Detroit News Exposes Trump Taking $1 Million from Chinese-Linked Gotion

After spending an entire election cycle throwing lies and misinformation about the Chinese-linked Gotion, Michigan Republicans have stayed mum on Trump taking $1 million

LANSING — In case you missed it, The Detroit News exposed the hypocrisy of Donald Trump and the entire MIGOP who, after throwing countless lies at Democratic candidates this past election about the Gotion project, are now conveniently silent after reporting found that Trump took a $1 million donation from Chinese-linked Gotion. From repeat Senate candidate Mike Rogers to Congressional Republicans like John Moolenaar to JD Vance and Trump himself, Republicans took every opportunity to say that any connection to Gotion should be a disqualifying factor — yet now, they’re uncharacteristically quiet.

Republicans at every level should be asked what they think of their dear leader, Donald Trump, taking these donations. We aren’t holding our breath, though, because these Republicans are just politicians who say whatever they want and stand for nothing.

But please, don’t take our word for it, take a look at what Republicans said about the Gotion project during the election cycle:

Extremist-in-Chief Donald Trump

  • Detroit News
    • “The Gotion plant would be very bad for the state and our country…It would put Michiganders under the thumb of the Chinese Communist Party in Beijing. I am 100% opposed.”

Trump Lackey JD Vance

  • New York Times
    • “Kamala Harris not only wants to allow the Chinese Communist Party to build factories on American soil, she wants to pay them to do it with our tax money…Democrats are helping China to destroy and replace our auto industry from the inside out.”
  • Mediaite
    • “The problem with the Gotion facility is fundamentally, we’re talking about Chinese investments, which doesn’t make us more self-reliant. In fact, I think it probably makes us more reliant on the Communist Chinese [sic] Party.”

Failed Senate Candidate Mike Rogers

  • Up North Live
    • “This is our chance to stand up and tell Washington D.C., that apparently isn’t listening very well, that we are not gonna take a Chinese Company with Chinese interests taking American jobs in our community.”
  • Bridge Michigan
    • “We are not going to take a Chinese company with Chinese interests taking American jobs in our community today.”
  • Grand Rapids Pioneer
    • “[China’s plan is to] get us to give them money to locate their Chinese technology right here in this idylic community… This is the start.”
  • Midland Daily News
    • “They are very aggressive, and they don’t have our interests at heart.”

John Moolenar

  • His Own Statement
    • “The company has continuously misled the public about its close ties to the CCP and refused to heed election results, instead deciding to sue a small town that does not want it. Gotion’s announcement it is pausing its application process is good news, however, it should listen to the people of Mecosta County and end its plans in Michigan once and for all.”

Tom Barrett

  • Fox News
    • “They’ve already purchased a bunch of rural farmland to go out and build a Chinese Communist Party-backed battery plant in Michigan, not far from a military installation where I trained for countless hours during my career in the Army.”
    • “So we have a Chinese company threatening with national security concerns to replace American jobs in traditional manufacturing with electric vehicle mandates that are borne by the Biden administration. So this has so many problems. It’s an absolutely horrible deal.”
  • MIRS
    • “These threats to national security are steeper than ever before. War is breaking out across the world. We feel it and we see it. The Chinese are coming for us.”
