At Trump’s order, Senate Republicans kill bipartisan border bill President Biden negotiated
LANSING — In case you missed it, yesterday, the Michigan congressional delegation slammed Donald Trump and Senate Republicans after they killed President Biden’s bipartisan border security bill. This is now the second border bill that Republicans have killed, in a craven attempt to help Trump politically.
Rather than working towards real, bipartisan solutions, Senate Republicans listened to Trump — instead of their constituents — and killed the critical legislation. Michigan Democratic leaders criticized these MAGA fanatics for failing to address this problem and then turning around to fear-mongering about it.
No matter how hard Republicans try to sow chaos and division, Michigan Dems will always put Michiganders first and hold Republicans accountable for their agenda that puts politics over people.

- Vulnerable Rep. Hillary Scholten (D-Mich.) called on the administration to do whatever is possible to address the border, while still holding out hope for an ever-elusive congressional accord.
- “We are certainly asking him to do everything he can within the confines of what executive action can do,” Scholten said. “But that is a very limited subset of the law. What we need to do, as members of Congress, is a legislative fix for the way that we treat asylum in this country.”
