Michigan Dems pounded the pavement to energize voters ahead of Tuesday’s primary
LANSING — With the Michigan presidential primary tomorrow, Democrats were out in full force working to get out the vote this past weekend. Alongside volunteers, state and national Democratic Leaders were knocking doors, shaking hands, and talking with voters about the importance of showing up for Tuesday’s primary.
Over the last several weeks, Michigan Dems have made hundreds of thousands of voter contacts through texts, calls, and door knocks to turn out voters for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. And Michiganders are already turning out! Over 1 million citizens have already voted in the presidential primary – a 13% percent increase in pre-Election Day voting from 2020.
The weekend was jam-packed with events, with Senator Amy Klobuchar joining Senator Stabenow and her fellow volunteer canvassers as they knocked doors in Southfield. Rep. Haley Stevens was in Oakland County talking to Michiganders about Biden’s accomplishments. Michigan Dems were also hitting the streets across the entire state with volunteers knocking doors from Detroit to Grand Rapids to the Upper Peninsula and everywhere in between. Lt. Gov. Gilchrist rolled up his sleeves and joined phone banks on Friday, before hitting churches throughout the Detroit metro area on Sunday with Lt. Gov. Stratton of Illinois to get voters energized.
The lead up to tomorrow’s primary has been months in the making, with President Biden himself making a visit to the state on February 1st, and the surrogates haven’t stopped coming since. Since January, national Democratic leaders, from Pete Buttigieg to Senator Klobuchar to US Reps. Sara Jacobs and Joyce Beatty to Vice President Harris and more have been highlighting accomplishments of the Biden-Harris Administration and what’s at stake.
