LANSING — In case you missed it, Michigan Democrats have been standing up for Medicaid as Trump and Republicans like Congressmen John James, Tom Barrett, and Bill Huizenga try to rip this critical program away from Michiganders. Even though the Michigan Republican delegation has the number of votes needed to save Medicaid, already members like Congressman James have voted to abandon countless Michigan families.
Leaders like Governor Gretchen Whitmer and our Democratic congressmembers have highlighted exactly how damaging these cuts would be for Michiganders. Without Medicaid, hundreds of thousands of individuals across the state would lose access to the health care they need, all so Trump can give his fellow billionaires another huge tax break.
It’s despicable, and the worst part is, if Michigan Congressional Republicans found their spines, they could save Medicaid — but they won’t. Instead, they will abandon Michiganders for the sake of Trump’s dangerous and unpopular agenda.
