By Malachi Barrett

KEY POINTS:

  • Last week, the DNC announced a multi-million dollar investment to fund full-time organizers and new field offices in Michigan and five other swing states. Meanwhile, the state party expanded its voter protection team and launched a hotline to provide information about Michigan’s new voting laws and collect reports of voter suppression.
  • Erica Peresman became the party’s full-time voter protection director last year after spending nearly two decades as a volunteer poll challenger. Three new staff members joined her team in January, who will help spread the word about changes in absentee voting laws, same-day voter registration and other changes secured by the passage of Proposal 3 in 2018.
  • The state party is also encouraging voters to call their hotline for more information at 833-MIVOTES. The hotline will be available to voters through the November election, and will eventually be available in English, Spanish, and Arabic.
