This Saturday, Michiganders rallied in the thousands in Marquette, Lansing, Detroit, Grand Rapids, and more to show their outrage at Trump’s reckless 77 days as President
LANSING — In case you missed it, this weekend, tens of thousands of Michiganders rallied across the state to take part in Hands Off protests to show their frustration and anger at Trump’s gutting of Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security, and more. From Marquette to Detroit to Grand Rapids, Michiganders were out in full force demonstrating to Trump, Elon, and all Republicans that they will not allow them to take away these critical programs without a fight.
This is not a partisan issue, this is about Michiganders standing up to billionaires who are trying to dismantle our very democracy and are tanking our economy in the process. They’re trying to reshape this country to ensure that it only works for the 1%, leaving everyone else to pay the price.

Detroit Free Press: Thousands In Michigan Object To Trump, Musk
- The groups that spearheaded the effort — dubbed the “Hands Off! Day of Action” — accuse Trump and his adviser Elon Musk of “taking everything they can get their hands on — our health care, our data, our jobs, our services…”
- Wynonia McGee, a Black woman who lived through the Jim Crow era, said she feels as though the country is slipping back to that time. She showed up Saturday to do her part to make sure the country doesn’t go backward.

- “It’s a 250-year-old democracy that could be over,” [Kim Winchell] said. “We’ve never had a president who has said not only did he not need votes but that people wouldn’t have to vote again…”
- “And I think too, it’s a message to the GOP in Congress, because they really are not taking the appropriate action,” [Michigan Democratic Party’s Senior Caucus Chairperson Linda Michaels-Gruber] said. “I think the message is, this is your America. These are your constituents. Listen to them.”

- Nessel was speaking during a “Hands Off!” protest organized by the 50501 Movement and various statewide groups, including civil rights organizations, labor unions, LGBTQ+ advocates, veterans, and fair-elections activists.
- It was one of 55 rallies planned to take place in Michigan at the same time as more than 1,000 protests nationwide. Rallies in Michigan were also organized in cities including Detroit, Grand Rapids, Traverse City and Marquette.
