LANSING — In case you missed it, ahead of the holiday last week, The Daily Beast dropped a behind-the-scenes look at yet another fundraiser for Michigan’s fake electors, this time held at the Macomb County Republican Party offices.
What makes this so alarming? The fundraiser was hosted by an official entity of the Michigan Republicans, which means that they are doubling down on their support of the same group of people who tried to undermine the constitution and overturn the will of the voters in 2020.
It would be easy to miss this among the blockbuster revelations that at least two electors say the strategy was guided by the Trump campaign.
But we can’t lose sight of the fact that Michigan’s Republican Party continues to tie itself to this conspiracy-fueled attack on our democracy. This isn’t the first time Macomb County Republicans have made the news for perpetrating the Big Lie – they’re already been blasted for hiring an insurrectionist to help recruit poll workers and for having one of the largest concentrations of people nationwide charged with crimes in connection with the Jan. 6.
