LANSING — In case you missed it, while Trump was lying to Detroiters, Chair of the Michigan Democratic Party Lavora Barnes was hard at work reminding Michiganders of exactly who Trump is. During his roundtable at a church that was meant to focus on engaging Black voters, where he spoke to a pretty empty room that appeared to be surprisingly white, Trump told tall tales about all the good he did for Michiganders — while conveniently forgetting the record-high Black unemployment and two auto factories that closed on his watch.
Thankfully, Chair Barnes was spreading the message far and wide: Donald Trump is a charlatan who has no business being anywhere near the presidency. While he spent his years in the White House giving tax breaks to his billionaire cronies, President Biden has lowered health care costs, put money back in working families’ pockets, and invested billions in American infrastructure.
The contrast is crystal clear, and we know that Michiganders weren’t fooled by his flashy performance this weekend.

- Michigan Democratic Party Chair Lavora Barnes said in a statement that Michigan voters sent Joe Biden and Kamala Harris to the White House in 2020.
- “Unfortunately, today’s press conference makes it clear that MAGA extremists will continue to do everything in their power to silence voters in Detroit – especially if they’re Black,” Barnes stated. “These extremists are not just a disgrace, they’re an active threat to our democracy and our way of life here in Michigan.”
