The mobile billboard circled the Capitol while the Michigan State Senate held a hearing on new gun safety legislation targeting domestic abusers
LANSING — In case you missed it, yesterday, as the Michigan Senate held a committee hearing on critical gun safety legislation, a mobile billboard was stationed outside the Capitol playing videos to remind Michiganders of the violent past of House Minority Leader Matt Hall.
As a reminder, MAGA Matt Hall has opposed the majority of gun safety reforms that moved through the Legislature, and was recently exposed for a disturbing history of violent and racially-tinged threats from when he was in college.
Hall’s messages included threatening a fellow college student with a “shotgun rifle,” saying he “just put a bullet in it with your name on it” as well as racially-charged statements like “The South will rise again,” and “we don’t like your kind here.”
The GOP Leader has yet to explain himself, and these horrifying revelations call into question his ability to fairly legislate when it comes to such sensitive issues as domestic violence. He remains one of the most powerful Republicans in the state, and oversees an extreme Republican caucus in the legislature that is right now evaluating critical bills that would restrict firearm possession for domestic abusers. Michiganders deserve a clear and satisfactory answer from Hall on how his record of harassment and violent threats do not disqualify him from assessing this and any other bills that concern harassment and partner violence.
We will continue to demand answers from Hall through any means necessary, as he stands to make critical decisions on firearm and interpersonal violence legislation.
