LANSING — This Groundhog Day, multi-millionaire Florida resident Mike Rogers might be feeling a sense of déjà vu.
Like Bill Murray’s character reliving the same day over and over, Rogers seems to be trapped in his own endless loop—once again facing scrutiny for selling out Michiganders, once again trying to explain away the cash he’s raked in from shady foreign interests, and once again defending his decision to abandon Michigan for Florida to get rich:
- In 2024, Rogers was scrutinized for enriching himself and his wealthy special interest backers while Michiganders paid the price… This year, Rogers remains “out-of-touch with most Michiganders” with an agenda that’s spiking costs for working families while giving handouts to millionaires like himself and his rich donors.
- In 2024, Rogers was exposed for gaining “hundreds of thousands of dollars in wealth through companies that have partnered with Chinese firms” and profiting from shady foreign interests… Last month, Rogers was exposed for raking in nearly $100,000 to advise Telefonica, which “admitted in 2022 to collaborating with the Venezuelan government — then led by the now-deposed Nicolas Maduro — to spy on its citizens.”
- In 2024, Rogers faced repeated questions about his residency after he abandoned Michigan for Florida to get rich and moved into a multimillion-dollar Cape Coral mansion… Last week, a new report revealed Rogers has “resum[ed] campaign activity from his Cape Coral home,” took his Florida mansion off the market, and said he’d rather be “on the beach in Florida” than in Michigan.
In the movie, Groundhog Day ends when you change—Rogers hasn’t, and neither will Michigan’s verdict on him.
