Duggan: We’ve Really Had No Problems With the Trump Administration

Duggan has defended Trump’s Medicaid cuts and is bankrolled by MAGA donors

LANSING — After saying that Donald Trump’s Medicaid cuts “are not as bad as they look,” Mike Duggan is now saying that as Mayor he’s had “no problems with the Trump administration.”

Duggan’s praise comes as Trump’s disastrous agenda is kicking Michiganders off their health care, denying food assistance for families, and forcing prices to skyrocket. More than 700,000 people across the state are set to lose their health care and experts have said that Trump’s Medicaid cuts are “disastrous” for Michigan health care.

Duggan’s comments come as questions have swirled around his embrace of MAGA world.  Duggan’s campaign has received the support of prominent Republicans and Trump megadonors, including former Michigan Republican Party Chair and Trump ally Ron Weiser; charter school profiteer JC Huizenga; and top aides to anti-worker Republican Rick Snyder, who passed Right to Work laws. Duggan also recently attended a fundraiser hosted by a Trump megadonor who gave $100,000 to the Trump Victory PAC in 2020 and is involved in a city towing scandal with Duggan.

“While Michiganders feel the effects of Donald Trump’s disastrous agenda everyday, Mike Duggan has ‘had no problems with the Trump administration,’” said Michigan Democratic Party spokesperson Derrick Honeyman. “Whether it’s defending Trump’s cuts to Medicaid or using MAGA money to fund his campaign, it’s clear that Mike Duggan can’t be trusted to stand up to Trump and protect Michigan from his catastrophic policies.”
