Jamie Thompson’s dozen encounters with law enforcement officers from 2004 to 2019 show consistent pattern of poor judgment
LANSING — A list of offenses including drunken driving, speeding, disobeying a traffic sign, driving without a license is just a sampling of the violations Republican state House candidate Jamie Thompson faced over 12 interactions with law enforcement officers during a 15-year period spanning from 2004 to 2019, according to a review by MIRS newsletter.
From a 2010 drunken driving arrest to a charge of failing to stop after an incident of property destruction in 2014, Thompson’s repeated run-ins with authorities shows she is not the right choice to represent Downriver families of the 28th House District in Lansing, said Lavora Barnes, chair of the Michigan Democratic Party.
“Twelve run-ins with police officers are not random mistakes, they represent a 15-year pattern of poor judgement,” Barnes said. “Mainstream, moderate voters across Downriver communities want a thoughtful, steady hand representing them in the state House and radical Republican Jamie Thompson has shown – time and again – she is not that.”
Democrat Rob Kull is running against Thompson to represent the 28th House District, which covers communities in Monroe and Wayne counties, including parts of Frenchtown, Berlin, Rockwood and Brownstown townships, and the cities of Flat Rock, Taylor and Woodhaven.
Thompson also has connections to the radical group Michigan Leadership Group, which organized a fundraiser that included the raffle of an AR-15 in the weeks after the massacre at a Texas elementary school. Her husband, Ronald Matte, is listed as president of the Michigan Leadership Group which describes itself as a group looking for supporters who will “stand with us to help preserve the fundamental principles of God, family and country.”
She is endorsed by radical anti-choice group Right to Life of Michigan, which requires its endorsed candidates to support a ban on all abortions without exception other than the life of the mother even in cases of rape and incest. Thompson also has supported a so-called forensic audit’ of the 2020 election and received the endorsement right wing group Patriot Approved.
