BREAKING: As Governor Whitmer Secures “Big Win For Michigan” With GM Investment, Republicans Have Failed To Offer Plans for Michigan

While James Craig says infrastructure is not a priority, Tudor Dixon dismisses the federal investments as “fake,” Kevin Rinke campaigns against auto insurance refunds, and Garrett Soldano prefers relitigating the 2020 election over every other issue, Governor Whitmer has been mission critical to keeping Michigan’s economy first.

Today, her strong leadership is once again on display as Michigan solidifies its standing as the birthplace for the future of the auto industry. GM just announced a $7 billion dollar investment in “making the state the ‘hub’ of electric vehicle development and manufacturing.” This “big win for Michigan” that represents GM’s “single largest investment announcement” in the company’s history includes:

  • $2.6 billion to build a new battery factory in Lansing
  • $4 billion to convert its existing factory in Orion Township to make electric pickups
  • $510 million to upgrade two existing vehicle assembly plants in Lansing
  • 4,000 new jobs and the retention of 1,000 more jobs

MDP spokesperson Rodericka Applewhaite issued the following statement:

“Republican candidates for governor have made clear that they are going to stay focused on an election that happened two years ago, and that comes at the expense of attention to issues that Michiganders care about. Their extreme, out-of-touch agendas include standing against improving infrastructure and cutting costs for families, while Governor Whitmer continues to move the state forward. Today’s historic announcement is yet another example of her strong leadership that will continue to grow Michigan’s economy.”
