“Rogers did not respond to a request to comment on his belittling of the American economy and the rising costs for consumers associated with Trump’s tariffs”
LANSING – In case you missed it, Mike Rogers was caught “making fun of those who worry about higher prices” driven by the chaotic tariffs he supports, according to new audio obtained by Heartland Signal from a town hall held last week in Michigan’s 9th Congressional District.

“‘And when the Democrats start getting at us, oh my gosh, coffee went up. You know, horror,’ Rogers mocked. “Okay, I don’t like that. Costs are up but I’m telling you what. I’d rather have good manufacturing jobs here.’”
As the reporting notes, Rogers’ argument is “statistically false.” New jobs data released last week shows “12,000 jobs in the manufacturing sector were lost in August, continuing a downward trend,” with 42,000 manufacturing jobs lost since chaotic Rogers-backed tariffs were implemented in April.
Rogers is now ducking reporters’ questions about his remarks, with Heartland Signal noting his campaign “did not respond to a request to comment on his belittling of the American economy and the rising costs for consumers.”
“Mike Rogers is campaigning on a toxic agenda that’s squeezing Michigan families’ wallets while devastating the manufacturing jobs he claims to support,” said Michigan Democratic Party Spokesperson Joey Hannum. “Instead of mocking families struggling with rising costs, Rogers should explain why he’s pushing policies that are killing good-paying manufacturing jobs.”
