WARREN — As GOP Senate candidate Mike Rogers campaigns with JD Vance, the Michigan Democratic Party held a press conference today with Democratic U.S. Senate nominee Dr. Abdul El-Sayed, state Senator Mallory McMorrow, and UAW Region 1 to call out Rogers for advancing Trump’s agenda, which continues to harm Michiganders. “Over the past couple of weeks, Michiganders have been struck by yet another disastrous Trump policy: the expansion of a trade war with Canada,” said Democratic U.S. Senate nominee Dr. Abdul El-Sayed. “With Mike Rogers, he has no choice but to rubber stamp, to ‘roger,’ a trade war that is now costing Michiganders—that he says he wants to serve—nearly $6,000 a year.”

“The choice could not be more clear. It is the chaos of the Trump administration, the cowardice of Mike Rogers, and the corruption of the entire MAGA party—or it’s a politics built on the notion that it should be people, rather than corporations and special interests, who dictate what our future looks like,” said El-Sayed. 

“Over and over again, Price Hike Mike has shown that he isn’t fighting for the families who are struggling to afford gas, groceries, and healthcare—he’s laughing at their pain while standing in lockstep with Trump’s corruption,” said state Senator Mallory McMorrow. “That’s exactly why this race is so important. Because while Mike Rogers is out here rubber stamping Trump’s toxic agenda, mocking concerns about rising costs, and raking in the special interest cash, Abdul El-Sayed is running to be a senator for Michigan.”

Rogers ran for Senate again at Trump’s personal request and pledged to advance his disastrous agenda:

• Rogers admitted he only decided to run again because Donald Trump personally called him and told him he needed him in the Senate.

• Rogers has said the entire reason he’s running is to make sure Michigan has a senator who will support Trump’s agenda, “not undermine it.”

Rogers is backing all of Trump’s cost-raising policies:

• Rogers supports Trump’s reckless tariffs and his escalating trade war with Canada, which will spike costs and kill jobs in Michigan. 

• Rogers supports Trump’s war in Iran and has repeatedly dismissed concerns from Michiganders about skyrocketing gas prices.

• Rogers supports Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill, which gutted Medicaid and SNAP to give tax handouts to billionaires. 

• Rogers supports Trump’s plan to end ACA subsidies, which caused healthcare premiums to double for hundreds of thousands of Michiganders.

• Rogers supports DOGE, encouraged its leaders to make their harmful cuts permanent, and pledged to shield them from investigations in the Senate.

Rogers has repeatedly dismissed Michiganders’ concerns as his and Trump’s agenda spiked costs and threatened Michigan manufacturing jobs:

• Rogers told Michiganders “the shoe is going to pinch every once in a while” in response to their concerns about tariff price hikes. 

• Rogers mocked Michiganders’ concerns about how Trump’s tariffs were spiking the cost of groceries, saying “‘Oh my gosh, coffee went up.’ You know? Horror!”

• Rogers said “we’re gonna be fine, we got plenty of oil,” in response to Michiganders’ concerns about skyrocketing gas prices due to the Iran War. 

• Rogers said “this is a pretty optimistic time for Michigan and the economy, with all this money flowing back to people” as inflation skyrocketed to its highest level in years amid the Iran War. 

• Rogers downplayed the impact of rising healthcare costs, saying “If you go up and have to pay the doctor $50 for your annual physical, that’s probably okay, right?” 

• Rogers claimed there was no inflation and that “working families are not paying more” under Trump.
