The Michigan Democratic Party released the following statement on behalf of Chair Lavora Barnes.
“The Michigan GOP is in a sad state of affairs as we kick-off 2021. Their most promising candidate for Governor just announced that she will not seek the office, leaving the GOP without a strong statewide candidate. Mike Shirkey, the Senate Majority Leader, is still buying into the election fraud conspiracy theories and has vowed to continue the make-believe investigation, while the entire world will watch President-elect Joe Biden take the oath of office on January 20, 2021. And Michigan Republicans in Lansing and Washington D.C. cannot seem to find common ground in supporting Michiganders through the continued pandemic, leaving many without needed services.
On the other side of the aisle, Michigan Democrats in Lansing and Washington D.C. are focused on working collectively on behalf of all Michiganders by prioritizing supporting our small business owners, properly funding education, cleaning up and protecting the Great Lakes, ensuring that everyone has access to affordable health care, and offering relief to all who have been impacted by COVID-19. With unparalleled leadership from an executive dream team led by Governor Whitmer, it is clear that Michigan Democrats are well-prepared to take on the challenges of 2021.”
