LANSING, Mich. — The Michigan Democratic Party is pleased to announce the following nominated candidates will be on the November ballot. Candidates were nominated at the 2020 State Convention, held virtually August 29 and 30.
Appearing on the non-partisan portion of the ballot for the State Supreme Court will be Chief Justice Bridget Mary McCormack and Elizabeth Welch. McCormack is currently serving as Chief Justice. Welch is seeking her first term and is currently an attorney that serves individuals, non-profits, and small businesses.
For the State Board of Education, the Democratic candidates are Ellen Cogen Lipton and Jason Strayhorn. Lipton is a former State Representative from Oakland county and Strayhorn is a realtor.
Candidates for the Michigan State University Board of Trustees are Dr. Rema Vassar and Brian Mosallam. Dr. Vassar is a former K-12 public school teacher, counselor, administrator, and parent organizer. Mosallam has been on the board since 2013 and is a financial advisor.
Two incumbents will be on the ballot for the University of Michigan Board of Regents, Mark Bernstein and Dr. Shauna Ryder Diggs. Both University of Michigan alumni, Bernstein has been on the board since 2012 and is an attorney. Dr. Ryder Diggs is a physician and has been on the board since 2012.
Shirley Stancato and Eva Garza Dewaelsche are running for the Wayne State Board of Governors. Stancato is currently on the board and is a seasoned executive, and an expert on race relations and a social justice advocate. Dewaelsche is President and CEO of SER Metro-Detroit Jobs for Progress, Inc., a workforce development organization.
