Detroit, MI — Detroit community leaders responded to a new report that reveals John James lied to voters about creating Michigan jobs, and that under his leadership he took nearly $2 million in tax breaks but failed to create any of the jobs promised and in fact cut jobs:
“John James has staked his entire campaign on his record as a successful businessman. But what kind of a businessman takes tax breaks and not only fails to create jobs, but loses them?” said Keith Williams, Chair of the Michigan Democratic Black Caucus. “If James can’t be trusted to follow through on his promise to create jobs in Michigan, he can’t be trusted to deliver for us in the Senate.”
“While John James took nearly two million in tax breaks, the city of Detroit went bankrupt and our people suffered,” said Reverend James Perkins, Chair of the Social Action Committee of the Council of Baptist Pastors of Detroit & Vicinity. “James must answer why he lied about his record as a Michigan job creator, pocketed taxpayer dollars and failed the communities he’s seeking to represent.”
“John James said he’s never taken a hand out, but the truth is he broke his promises and lied about it. Michiganders deserve answers on why he left our communities behind while taking a million dollar payday and failing to follow through on his commitments as CEO of his company,” said Rick Blocker, chairman of the 14th District Democrats.
