This week, U.S. Senator Gary Peters continues to fight for Michigan families – working to pass the annual national defense bill which includes a pay raise for our men and women in uniform, provisions to strengthen the medical supply chain and increase support for missile defense, announcing a proposal to support an eventual safe return to school, and helping to reintroduce the bipartisan Voting Rights Advancement Act which is renamed after John Lewis to ensure all Americans are able to exercise their right to vote.

PETERS FOR MICHIGAN RELEASED NEW ADS WITH CRAFT BREWER CHRIS ANDRUS
Peters for Michigan released new TV ads titled “Red Tape” and “Lakes” which is running in media markets across Michigan. The ads highlight Peters’ effectiveness in fighting for and getting results for small businesses in Michigan and features The Mitten Brewing Company, a craft brewery based in Grand Rapids who was able expand their operations more quickly with Gary’s help to cut red tape.

Gary joined former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords on her Universal Background Check Tour. They were joined with a local Michigan activist to discuss ways to pass common sense solutions to address gun violence in the U.S.

- “Where these checks are in place it prevents these senseless, needless tragedies from occurring and I believe this has to be a bipartisan issue this is not a partisan issue, this is not a blue issue or a red issue this is about us coming together in a bipartisan way,” Peters said.
- “Peters says he knows Michiganders love hunting and this background check will make sure guns stay in safe hands. The senator says this is a fight long fought and needs to get done.”
