LANSING– A new report highlights the Trump administration’s callous disregard for Michigan hospitals, which have been devastated by COVID-19 after the state became a hotspot for the global pandemic.
The report finds that Michigan hospitals have received only $31,045 per COVID-19 patient from the CARES Act, almost $130,000 less per patient than average. In total, the administration has yet to release 41% of hospital relief funds appropriated through the CARES Act. The devastating shortfall in relief money comes after Donald Trump threatened to withhold funding from Michigan and attacked local leaders attempting to clean up his failed COVID-19 response.
“While Michigan suffers from a pandemic Donald Trump refused to address, his administration has failed to get our state hospitals the funding they need,” said Michigan Democratic Party spokesman Christian Slater. “The Trump administration’s refusal to distribute these critical funds have left Michigan hospitals and health care workers without life-saving funds and represents the latest failure in Trump’s disastrous response to COVID-19.”
