LANSING– After months of Donald Trump ignoring warnings and downplaying the COVID-19 crisis, Michigan has been devastated by the global pandemic. As Mike Pence comes to Sterling Heights, he must answer for the devastation Trump has forced on the state.
Michigan’s economy has been sent into a downward spiral because of Trump’s failed COVID-19 response, with an unemployment rate of over 22% and 1 in 7 businesses believing they won’t survive the economic downturn. While businesses struggle and over 1 in 5 workers go unemployed, almost 6,000 Michiganders have died after over 60,000 tested positive for COVID-19. The devastating results of Trump’s failure have fallen disproportionately on the Black community, accounting for 40% of deaths.
“Donald Trump’s erratic and inadequate response to COVID-19 has failed Michiganders and they want answers for his disastrous leadership,” said Michigan Democratic Party spokesman Christian Slater. “After thousands of deaths and an economy in a downward spiral, Michigan voters won’t be fooled by Mike Pence’s empty words and cheap promises.”
