LANSING — The Michigan Democratic Party is pleased to announce support for the reelection of Chief Justice Bridget Mary McCormack and the election of Elizabeth Welch to the State Supreme Court.
“It is more obvious than ever that who we elect to the bench matters,” said Lavora Barnes, Chair of the Michigan Democratic Party. “Chief Justice Bridget Mary McCormack and Elizabeth Welch bring the experience, the passion, and the constitutional knowledge that is so needed.”

Chief Justice Bridget Mary McCormack is running for reelection to the bench. She has served on the State Supreme Court since January 2013. As the Chief Justice, McCormack has promoted statewide initiatives devoted to improving the courts’ service to the public, and in particular delivering on a promise that courts are independent, accessible, engaged with their communities and efficient.
Elizabeth Welch is seeking her first term on the State Supreme Court. She has 25 years of experience as an attorney fighting for and serving Michiganders. She served as Vice President of the East Grand Rapids Public Schools Board of Education, President of the Michigan League of Conservation Voters, and President of the Women Lawyers Association of Michigan – Western Region.
“The MDP will be working across all 83 counties of Michigan to educate voters on the importance of the Supreme Court races,” said Barnes. “Michigan needs the continued leadership of Chief Justice McCormack and the fresh, new perspective of Elizabeth Welch.”
