LANSING — The Michigan Democratic Party released the following statement on behalf of Chair Lavora Barnes on Donald Trump’s announced Detroit event:
“For months, Donald Trump ignored warnings about COVID-19 and refused to prepare for a pandemic that has decimated the Black community in Detroit. While this president was playing political games and attacking local leaders in a desperate attempt to dodge blame for his erratic and inadequate response, Black people in Detroit were dying. Now, he thinks he can win some votes with a cheap messaging stunt that comes after months of neglect and disinterest. Donald Trump has no real plan to help Detroit aside from pandering and empty lip service. He has failed the city time and again, and no meeting, rally, or speech changes that.”
