LANSING– As nearly 25% of Michigan’s workforce applies for unemployment benefits and the economic damage of COVID-19 mounts, a new report indicates stimulus checks for Michigan workers could be delayed by Trump’s insistence on including his signature on the checks.
The political games will disproportionately hurt low-income workers and come as Trump’s Treasury Department announced it will allow banks to seize stimulus checks for debt collection. As his failures mount, Trump has desperately sought to dodge responsibility for his erratic and inadequate COVID-19 response, blaming governors, the WHO, and even frontline health care workers for his failures.
“Donald Trump is playing political games in a desperate attempt to help his re-election chances while Michigan’s most vulnerable workers suffer,” said Michigan Democratic Party spokesman Christian Slater. “He can try and dodge blame but voters know his erratic and inadequate COVID-19 response has failed Michigan.”
