Still in Hiding, John James’ Failure In Leadership On Full Display As Michiganders Face Unprecedented Challenges

James hasn’t spoken to MI TV in 294 days, hasn’t answered questions from MI print media in 187 days, refused to appear at a public event for 99 days

As the COVID-19 pandemic rapidly spreads throughout Michigan, including in Detroit where it is spreading faster than almost anywhere else in the country, failed Senate candidate John James has refused to meet the moment and demonstrate real leadership. Not only has James not done an interview in hundreds of days, in a recent op-ed he doesn’t even mention the unprecedented challenges Michiganders are facing right now – from record-high unemployment claims and medical equipment shortages – not to mention fails to offer solutions.

While James has been on his prolonged hiding streak, he’s failed to show Michiganders how he would lead  them through this crisis, dodging saying whether he supports congressional coronavirus proposals to address the public health and economic crisis.

Meanwhile, Senator Gary Peters has been focused on delivering results for Michigan’s working families. Peters led the way in broadening eligibility for unemployment insurance and expanding coverage for up to 4 months – which will relieve small business owners, freelancers, and independent contractors in Michigan. He also secured more money for the Michiganders on the front lines of this crisis including hospitals, workers who are forced to stay home, and small businesses.

“At a time when Michiganders are looking for solutions, not finger pointing, John James has consistently missed the mark on what our state needs and has failed to show any leadership. If James wants to lead Michigan, he should come out of hiding and explain how he would help Michigan families who desperately need relief,” said Michigan Democratic Party spokesperson Elena Kuhn.
